It was released in 2014, and it is one of the most interesting fragrances in the collection called the “Amalfi Coast,” which consists of a number of unique and alluring scents. One of the most interesting ones is Mandarino Di Amalfi (originally named Mandarino). Despite its release eight years ago, this spicy fragrance is still very popular and wanted among both genders, despite the fact that it was released 8 years ago.
It was released in 2014, and among the many unique and alluring fragrances made by Tom Ford in the collection called “Amalfi Coast,” Mandarino Di Amalfi (originally titled “Mandarino”) stood out as one of the most interesting ones. In spite of the fact that this spicy fragrance was released eight years ago, its influence hasn’t faded away. Additionally, it remains highly sought after and desired by men and women alike. Men’s fragrance, Calice Becker, the nose behind this beautiful scent, has managed to combine all of these opposite but complementary notes together and come up with a unisex, floral fragrance that screams hot!
But is Mandarino di Amalfi still worth the money after all these years?
What is the smell of Mandarino di Amalfi like?
Mandarino di Amalfi by Tom Ford smells like a citrusy and fresh redolence with lemon in the opening and orange blossom in the heart. It is a scent that is extremely light but punchy, and it is perfect for summer.
It is important to know that this fragrance focuses on citrus and freshness, even though the name may lead us to believe that we have mandarin in the fragrance, in actuality, the top notes are actually lemon and grapefruit followed by orange blossom in the heart. Since I have said this, you can already picture what that tempting mixture is like in a few short seconds.
As with all Tom Ford fragrances from the Private Blend collection, Mandarino di Amalfi concentration is an eau de parfum (EDP), just like the others.
Top notes are:
- Black Currant
Middle notes are:
- Orange Blossom
- Clary Sage
- Black Pepper
Base notes are:
It is important to note that aside from the citrusy notes that welcome you in the first spray, one more segment that gives you that floral and clean feeling actually comes from the base notes, which are dominated by musk, which is found in the highest portion of this fragrance.
Even though the mint and black currant are also stated as top notes in the fragrance, these actual notes are very hard to recognize, if not impossible. If you are looking for a minty and cooling smell, you are not going to find this fragrance a convincing choice.
There are also notes of jasmine that can be found in middle tones, but they are difficult to verify since the citrusy opening is quite strong and dominant. This perfume takes about an hour to settle to the skin, and once it has, the herbs from the middle tones begin to appear, and the fragrance begins to smell more sexy, appealing, and clean at the same time. Lemons easily fade away, and during that time period you will also be able to smell a gentle touch of black pepper.
In Mandarino Di Amalfi the base notes include vetiver, labdanum, cedar, amber, and musk, which give it that soft and flowery feel. It’s blended so well with the striking middle notes, that the artistic symphony actually leaves an impression expressing uniqueness and seduction.
All of the notes in this fragrance have been balanced perfectly, so it will certainly be adored by both women and men, but you should keep in mind that if you want to pull this fragrance off, you should have the right attitude, as it won’t be a silent scent that stays on your skin for long.
I recommend that if you are not ready to experience the freshness and cold spiciness that comes with the alluring tones of this Tom Ford mixture, then stay away from this tempting and youthful fragrance that comes with alluring tones.
Do you know when to wear Mandarino di Amalfi?
I think that Mandarino di Amalfi is a perfect choice for hot, summer days, most preferably for daytime, vacations, and exotic getaways, but it will also work great at evening occasions if you put it on.
There is no doubt that almost every person who smells this fragrance will agree that it is very versatile. It’s evident that this perfume was made for hot, summer days, vacations, and days off from work, coffee-time by the river, or cocktails by the beach.
In addition to the citrusy and fresh smell that this perfume carries, you will also be transported to some exotic and fancy destination instantly with all the exotic and fancy sensations it brings.
As a result of its citrus and orange textures, this fragrance is often used during the day, but as soon as the musk and spiciness come to the surface, this aromatic composition can easily be worn to night events, as well.
Since this perfume is missing that smokiness and dustiness, there is no chance that one can relate it to winter or fall. However, one can wear this perfume in the spring when the weather slowly begins to treat us with warmer days as the weather slowly begins to get better.
The beach is one of my favorite places to spend time whilst on vacation, and this is one of my favorite things to do!
What is the shelf life of Mandarino Di Amalfi?
In an average, Mandarino di Amalfi lasts for about 4-5 hours, and it projects very well during the first two hours after it is used.
In spite of the fact that Tom Ford is used to making fragrances with pretty good performance, it is evident that Mandarino di Amalfi does not perform as well as Tom Ford’s usual fragrances.
The performance of this beautiful summer scent has always been an issue, and numerous people have reported a longevity of 3 hours. When my team and I tested it for multiple days, we found that the average longevity was 4-5 hours on average.
The projections are on beast-mode for the first 1-2 hours, and the sillage is very strong, as well. After those initial 2 hours, the projection and sillage are moderate, and in order for you to be noticed, you’ll most likely have to be close to someone or reapply the fragrance.
This is something that’s always up for discussion – should it be like this or does it lack performance in some way?
For me personally, I would like projection and sillage to be a bit longer, but I do not have a problem with overall longevity? Why? It’s a summer fragrance, which means that I will easily get sweaty several times during the day — and I personally like to take multiple showers throughout the day as well. In order for me to switch fragrances during the course of the day, I would like to reapply my fragrance multiple times during the day.
However, there are some people who prefer their fragrance to last for a long time, regardless of the season or the temperature, which is also quite acceptable to them.
What is your opinion on this type of performance? Is it a problem for you? Let us know in the comments below what you think of this type of performance.

Is it enough to spray Mandarino di Amalfi a few times in order to feel the effects?
Nevertheless, although Mandarino di Amalfi appears to be a strong and potent fragrance at first sniff, it really is not, and so you should not overdo the application. For optimum performance, it is best to apply only four to five sprays – two under the ears, two in the dips below the collarbone, and one behind the head for the ultimate fragrance effect.
If you choose Mandarino to be your daily option, there is no need to spray too many times due to its strong and powerful opening, which means you won’t have to use too many sprays.
In case you are wondering if 4-5 sprays of the “Mandarino Di Amalfi” will be sufficient for you to satisfy your need to smell marvelous and to attract pleasant compliments, and since this scent is very likable by both genders, be assured that they will come from both directions.
Just like with any other fragrance, however, you should not overuse it, because you will end up with a completely different result, and people can get agitated with such a strong smell. All fragrances that get overapplied and overused, fail to open and do their job properly.
To maintain optimal performance and to ensure that your Mandarino di Amalfi experience is as good as possible, you need to know where and how to apply fragrance properly.
Mandarino di Amalfi – Where To Buy It?
The Mandarino di Amalfi can be bought in many local perfumeries that are authorized resellers of Tom Ford. Though, if you prefer to shop online, then you should check out Tom Ford’s official website, Amazon, Sephora, FragranceX, and FragranceNet, so that you may purchase your bottle of Mandarino di Amalfi there.
Taking a look at local perfumeries, I am sure that any perfumery that sells high-end, selective fragrances (e.g. Tom Ford) will have Mandarino di Amalfi on their shelves.
Having the opportunity to smell the fragrance before you decide to buy it is a great way to see whether or not it is something you will like and decide whether to spend your money on it or not.
However, if you are unable to go to a local perfumery or if you don’t live near one, then you can still purchase it from one of the following places:
This means that you will find different prices on these websites, but there will also be a difference in the shipping times too. The most important thing is that if you purchase from these sources, you can rest assured that you will buy the original fragrance and not be scammed with fakes.
It is always important to be very cautious when buying fragrances online to avoid getting scammed and purchasing a fake fragrance – it is not just that you can just lose money, but you can also get a skin condition because fake fragrances have never been tested on human skin and are not safe to use at all.
Despite the fact that Mandarino di Amalfi comes in a transparent, turquoise blue bottle with a little darker shade of blue for the cap, the bottle is elegantly adjusted and balanced in a way that evokes a sense of luxury and richness. It comes in the same blue shade for the package, with an interesting opening (you remove the top box, and perfume stays on the bottom stand).
As soon as you remove the cap, you will be able to see the excellent atomizer that has great attribution, I assure you that you will not be disappointed.
Mandarino di Amalfi is part of an already established collection, such as other fragrances in the series “Amalfi Coast”, and which follows the same pattern and packaging as other fragrances in the series, such as Neroli Portofino & Costa Azzurra.
Overall, it is very elegant, chic, and timeless packaging. You really get the feeling that the fragrance you just purchased is a high quality and expensive fragrance. It will look great on your shelf and it will likely become an integral part of the modish décor of your room. Once again, Tom Ford did not disappoint with his presentation.

What do you think about Mandarino di Amalfi – Is it worth the money?
For writers, it is always the verdict that comes the hardest…
The performance, the uniqueness of the scent, the complement factor, and the price make Mandarino di Amalfi a good fragrance only if you are a beginner in fragrances and are still exploring many scents. If, however, you have experience with perfumes, Mandarino di Amalfi simply isn’t a perfume to consider.
This fragrance is absolutely worth buying for those who are just beginning to explore the beautiful world of scents, notes, and the fourth sense, since even though there are many other summer scents out there, Tom Ford never fails to add their own signature that many people appreciate, so they find it amazing and absolutely worth it.
However, experienced perfume-holics will not be so amazed by smelling this for the first time, as there are so many other perfumes that deliver better punchiness, stronger performance at a lower price than this. Sure, it’s wonderful, but not as great that you’re okay with spending that much money on something you’ve probably smelled before or something that’s linked to another scent.
At least, that is my judgment – after thousands of different types of fragrance flowing through my nose over the last few decades, if I caught a whiff of Mandarino di Amalfi now, I wouldn’t really find it worth my while.
Additionally, you should keep in mind that regardless of this final verdict, this is still a very beautiful smelling perfume that is sure to leave a good impression, regardless of what the final verdict is.
While I am passionate about perfume, I live in a rural area of the Bronx, New York, far from any perfume stores that are close by. It is straightforward: I do not have any credentials to provide as the author of this blog. I just love perfume, that’s all I have to offer.
In addition to wearing male, female, and unisex fragrances, I also enjoy wearing perfumes containing woods, incense, citrus, flowers, spices, vetiver, and green notes. As well as chypre perfumes, I enjoy fragrances with oakmoss, especially chypres. Patchouli and amber are not particularly appealing to me, and with some notable exceptions, perfumes that smell very clean, oceanic, or are too sweet are not particularly appealing to me.
I also have an addiction to expensive chocolates and teas, and I spend a great deal of time browsing the Internet, reading blogs primarily written by others.
