Dior Sauvage Review in 2022 – Still The best?

July 19, 2022 Jojo Hennessey 2 Comments

In the world of fragrance, Dior Sauvage has ended up being one of the most sought-after fragrances and it is most certainly one of the most popular ones on the market today.

As a result of the appropriation of Native American culture in the desert, Johnny Depp had to pull the campaign out – a fragrance that was one with Earth, soul, and nature, but still very modern in its approach. That is the impression house Dior wanted you to have – even though the campaign was pulled due to the appropriation of Native culture…

In 2015, Francois Demachy from the house of Christian Dior was the genius behind Dior Sauvage Eau De Toilette, a fragrance that skyrocketed to the top of the fragrance charts, becoming its best-selling fragrance since then.

The purpose of this article is to provide you with a complete review of the Dior Sauvage fragrance so that you can get a detailed overview of the perfume before making your decision about whether or not to purchase it.

Can you tell me how Dior Sauvage smells?

From the very first smell of Dior Sauvage, you can tell that it is a fresh, adventurous, spicy, classic man fragrance. However, it is nothing you haven’t smelled before, so don’t expect much in terms of uniqueness from this scent.

The fragrance does have a manly, wild, and sexy scent to it, but a lot of people get reminded of Bleu de Chanel, Versace Dylan Blue, and Prada Lunna Rosa Carbon when they smell it.

Sauvage, on the other hand, has a uniqueness – it’s a similar scent to some others, but if you were to be blindfolded and smelled all of these, you would easily figure out which one is Sauvage even if you were blindfolded.

This is what Dior Sauvage smells like if you can imagine a classic men’s fragrance that has a little bit of wildness in it in addition to a classic floral scent.

As with any fragrance, Sauvage uses notes associated with men’s fragrances which are typically found in them, but a unique blend of them gives it a distinctive scent making it easily recognizable.

There is an immediate, strong smell of pepper as soon as you spray it. It is so strong that I can almost hear the molecules of the pepper buzzing through the air from all directions in all directions like they need to go somewhere.

The notes do smell a little like bergamot, but you won’t find any real bergamot in the notes – it’s just an aroma chemical that has been manipulated to smell like bergamot with the goal of it smelling like it.

The fragrance houses often use these because they are cheaper and can make the fragrance more affordable, and that is completely fine as they are often used by fragrance houses. When perfumers need to make a certain note perform differently, they use aroma chemicals – in this case, real bergamot is a more citrusy note that’s not going to give you that smash through the air that the perfumer wants you to feel, so the perfumer replaced it with aroma chemicals in order to achieve the desired result.

Upon drying down, the smell begins to become drier, where you start to feel a combination of pepper and lavender mixed together but these notes were combined so well that you start smelling something sweet in the background blended with other notes, even though in reality these notes are not sweet.

Sauvage turns dry, still pepper dominant, woody (with a hint of tobacco I would say) to a compliment getting fragrance that will last for hours on your skin once the heart of the fragrance reaches its peak and starts to degrade towards the bottom of the fragrance.

As far as I’m concerned, Dior Sauvage is too universal and too safe, but that does not mean that it is not a beautiful fragrance to smell. There are no notes except the pepper that will be too obvious, as they are all slightly blurred and merged together, making it one of the most classic scents for men.

In summary, I can promise you that Sauvage will blow your mind if you are not a fragrance freak like me.

What is the average life expectancy of Dior Sauvage?

As far as the Dior Sauvage lasts, it is ultra-potent and projects for 4-6 hours after application, depending on your skin type.

In addition, the sillage is very strong, and the scent will definitely remain in the air for quite some time after application.

It is an absolute beast when it comes to longevity as well as projection. It has the ability to be projected up to 4-5 feet around you continuously. It will be impossible for people not to be able to smell your presence once you walk into the room with Dior Sauvage.

I believe Sauvage’s longevity has always played a huge role in the success of this fragrance and it is definitely the reason why so many people like it. However, I am fairly certain that Dior house won’t take anything away from this fragrance’s longevity in the future.

It has been reported that the Dior Sauvage batch that was produced between 2021 and 2022 failed to meet this standard of longevity, lasting only 6-7 hours. This is an update (May 2022). Despite all the rumors surrounding Dior Sauvage, I still did not have the chance to test it, but I plan on doing so within the next few weeks, after which I’ll update this section properly. The Dior Sauvage fragrance is still considered to be a long-lasting fragrance, regardless of the rumors. Try following some of our tips on how to make the fragrance last longer if you are experiencing a few hours of longevity with your perfume.

Dior Sauvage: When Should You Wear It?

It can be said that Dior Sauvage is a very universal fragrance, so that you can wear it during the day as well as at night when going out. It is excellent on hot summer days, but at the same time it can be used in the cold winter months as well.

Dior Sauvage is a fragrance that most people said they loved wearing in the office, but don’t limit it to just using it for office wear – you can also use it for a date with someone you want to impress if you have one with Dior Sauvage.

I think it is fair to say that when it comes to this amazing fragrance, there are really no rules. It fits perfectly in every event and it will most certainly make your first impressions unforgettable.

When it comes to Dior Sauvage, How Many Sprays are Enough?

I have tried hundreds of options, from almost bathing in it, to just spraying it once or twice a day, and the result is pretty much what I expected.

You should be able to use 2-4 sprays of Dior Sauvage since it is a very potent perfume, so this should be the case. You should spray two on each side of your neck, and you should spray two more on your chest or shoulder if you want the scent to last longer. As a rule, fragrances linger more on your clothes than on your skin.

However, if you want to go below 2, then just spray it once under your chin and it will work like magic once again. However, if you think that 2-4 sprays are not enough, then feel free to spray it a few more times anywhere you need it.

I would suggest to make sure that you do not apply more than three sprays on the same spot as this will make it harder for the fragrance to open up and dry down to the base notes if you do.

Is Dior Sauvage Right For Me? Is It Worth It To Wear It?

Dior Sauvage EDT is definitely for men who are comfortable with people knowing they entered the room before seeing them, and who enjoy expressing their masculinity.

As well as these two rules, there are other factors that play an important role in determining whether or not Sauvage is right for you.

The fragrance has been a top seller since 2015 when it was released, and many men around the world have this fragrance, so you should keep in mind that there is a good chance that some people around you will recognize it and might comment something like “Oh, you smell like my brother/boyfriend/ex/friend, or something like that.” If you are okay with smelling like a lot of men out there, then go ahead with it, but if you are more into smelling unique, Sauvage may not be the best choice.

It is also important to keep in mind that Sauvage is a lot different from other programs because it is mainly not for people who do not like being around people or receiving a lot of attention. Because Sauvage will make people know that you smell good, it will get their attention, it will spark interest in them to approach you and ask you about your smell, and most certainly it will grab their attention as well.

Generally speaking, then Dior Sauvage is a great choice if you are looking for a fresh, sexy, and manly fragrance, but also want it to be pretty safe that will ensure that your friends and family will also like it.

I don’t think there is a secret that women love Dior Sauvage. There have been a lot of social experiments where guys would imagine thinking about girls they’ve never met before, and 8/10 of women always report that Sauvage is one of the best fragrances that they’ve ever smelled.

What about Dior Sauvage? Is it suitable for both men and women?

Despite the fact that Christian Dior declared Sauvage to be a male fragrance, it is widely understood that many women prefer wearing male fragrances, so if you are a woman who is looking to wear a masculine fragrance, Dior Sauvage may be of interest to you.

Can you explain what the differences between Dior Sauvage EDT, EDP, Parfum, and Elixir are?

The perfume Sauvage was launched in 2015 by Dior, and it was an EDT fragrance, meaning it contained between 10% and 20% etheric oil and between 80-90% alcohol. Three years later, Dior released the Eau De Parfum (EDP) version of Sauvage, which also turned out to be an amazing fragrance, but it was nowhere near as great as the EDT. In the following year, Dior released Sauvage Parfum, a fragrance that I believe to have been a total failure.

As you can see from the above table, the difference between Sauvage EDT, EDP, and Parfum is pretty large, so it changes the complete story about the fragrance.

There are three main differences between Dior Sauvage EDT, EDP, and Parfum in short: they do not have the same notes, they do not perform the same way, the price is different for all three of them, and some people who like EDT may not like the other versions or opposites. There are big differences between these fragrances, which changes the entire story about the fragrance as they do not smell or perform the same way.

This article will help you to understand the differences between EDT, EDP, and Parfum in an in-depth manner. Feel free to check it out by clicking here!

The Sauvage Elixir was introduced by Dior at the beginning of September 2021. Based on the reviews and my own personal sniff, I am convinced that Elixir is more concentrated, and it contains Sauvage DNA, but it is very different from all three other options. A separate review will be written about this product in more detail. It was created for heavy winter and fall days and performs well in cold temperatures.

Dior Sauvage – Where Can I Buy It?

As far as where to buy Dior Sauvage, the best places to buy it are local perfumeries that are authorized resellers of Dior fragrances, or if you prefer to buy it online, the best places are Amazon, FragranceNet, FragranceX, and Dior’s official website.

The best way to buy fragrances is to go to a physical store – a perfumery that is an authorized reseller of the brand. That way, you’ll have the opportunity to get a feel for it and then decide whether you need to purchase it or not.

Purchasing Dior Sauvage blindly is probably not going to go wrong, but if you have the chance to visit the physical store, that is what you should do if you have the opportunity.

However, if you’re fairly certain about your purchase, or you’re just looking to refill your bottle, I would personally recommend getting it from Amazon or FragranceNet if you’re certain to do so.

Although Amazon’s and FragranceNet’s prices may differ, there is no doubt that the shipping costs will also vary.

There are many other trustworthy online sources for purchasing perfumes, but  Dior’s official website. is another option for buying Sauvage if you are looking for a trustworthy source.

No matter which one of these sources you choose, you can be sure that you will be receiving an original bottle of the product without needing to worry about scams and fake versions.

It is always advisable to be very cautious when buying fragrances online, and to use trustworthy sources, such as those mentioned above. Fake fragrances are not dermatologically tested, and can have a negative effect on your health.

Sizes and packaging of products

Courtasy / Dior Sauvage

It is available in a beautifully designed blue bottle that becomes increasingly transparent towards the bottom. It is also fitted with a heavy magnetic cap which gives it that premium feel in the hand.

There are three sizes of this product available:

  • 2 oz / 60 ml
  • 3.4 oz / 100 ml
  • 6.7 oz / 200 ml

It is true that most people started with a 60 ml bottle of this beautiful manly beast, but after that went out pretty quickly, I have a 200ml bottle of this beautiful manly beast in my collection, which I would advise you to get as well!

As a summary

There is no doubt that Dior Sauvage won the hearts of many people out there ever since 2015, which made it one of the best-selling fragrances in the world. Women love it because of the sexy scent it imparts, and men love it because it smells of confidence!

A very complex mix of notes was the masterpiece of Francois Demachy who managed to blend it all together and give the pepper advantage. The fragrance was created by the master perfumer using the idea of “the man as the starting point.” This fragrance is perfect for men who identify themselves as the one. It has a strong and unmistakable masculinity.

Jojo Hennessey

While I am passionate about perfume, I live in a rural area of the Bronx, New York, far from any perfume stores that are close by. It is straightforward: I do not have any credentials to provide as the author of this blog. I just love perfume, that’s all I have to offer.

In addition to wearing male, female, and unisex fragrances, I also enjoy wearing perfumes containing woods, incense, citrus, flowers, spices, vetiver, and green notes. As well as chypre perfumes, I enjoy fragrances with oakmoss, especially chypres. Patchouli and amber are not particularly appealing to me, and with some notable exceptions, perfumes that smell very clean, oceanic, or are too sweet are not particularly appealing to me.

I also have an addiction to expensive chocolates and teas, and I spend a great deal of time browsing the Internet, reading blogs primarily written by others.
