Creed Silver Mountain Water — Full Review in 2022

July 27, 2022 Jojo Hennessey

Inspire by the high altitudes of the snowy Swiss Alps and Oliver Creed’s fondness for skiing, Creed house, launched in 1995, greeted the audience with a freshness that was reminiscent of high mountains and windy glades, and represented one of Creed’s most highly complimented fragrances of all time: Silver Mountain Water.

The Silver Mountain Water fragrance was one of the most abstract scents from this house back in 1995, and even today, 27 years later, it still carries that name, making it one of the most popular fragrances today.

The creed fragrances are known for being made from fresh and high-quality ingredients and the majority of the time, once you smell their fragrance, you automatically get that one overpowering note (like in the case of Aventus and its pineapple note), but it did not occur to me until I smelled Silver Mountain Water that that was not the case.

Even after all these years, this fragrance can definitely get you at the top of the Swiss Alps’ highest peak because of it’s incredible blend, freshness, and the quality of notes, and even after all these years, it can definitely get you there.

How Does Creed Silver Mountain Water Smell? How Does Creed Silver Mountain Water Taste?

This scent reminds me of a burst of green tea (which is the dominant note), along with the citrusy combo of bergamot and mandarin orange. The scent continues to smell extremely fresh with a beautiful musky background after the scent has dried down.

Silver Mountain Water is described by Creed as having the following notes:

Top notes:

  • Bergamot
  • Mandarin
  • Neroli

Heart notes:

  • Green Tea
  • Black Currant bud

Base notes:

  • Musk
  • Sandalwood

Please be aware that Creed House has been known for having different batches of Silver Mountain Water, so before we go into the actual scent of Silver Mountain Water, it is important to keep in mind that the batch I am smelling may be different from the batch you intend to buy or the one you own. The differences in scent and performance are minor, but they exist. Consider this review an expert breakdown, but it remains a subjective opinion, because each person’s nose is unique. Therefore, you might find this smells like something else to you.

Upon opening, you are welcomed by a hint of green tea, but combined with the top notes of mandarin and neroli, you can also sense a citrusy punch while remaining smooth and silky.

As far as I am concerned, this is one of those fragrances that is beautifully blended and many people have said that it gives off a metallic scent when sprayed on. In some moments, it does seem metallic and I can imagine that this might be because of the combination of black currants and green tea, but I do not find it strange at all, so I can see their point. Even the metallic touch made this scent even more unique and delightful in my opinion. As a matter of fact, it smells incredible.

Black currant and musk are starting to kick in after about ten minutes of the scent being present, and the scent becomes more green, smoother, and slightly chilly as a result. Green tea remains present for a while in the dry down as well, but it starts to fade away after that.

At the end of the scent, you can smell an earthy, sandalwood base with a musky effect, and throughout the entire duration of its lifespan, Creed Silver Mountain Water keeps its herbal, fresh, clean, fresh aroma with a touch of woodiness in the base.

Creed Silver Mountain Water, all in all, is a fragrance that smells very good. Everyone who enjoys fresh and green bombs will most certainly be able to find something to their liking in it.

It is categorized as a unisex scent, but in my opinion, if I had to choose, I would say that this snowy freshness is 60% masculine and 40% feminine. However, I do think anyone can wear this fragrance comfortably.

There is no doubt that Creed Silver Mountain Water will awaken your imagination, as with virtually all other masterpieces created by Creed.

What is the shelf life of Creed Silver Mountain Water?

This is an award winning scent that has excellent longevity and will last for 7 to 8 hours. In terms of performance and sillage, Creed Silver Mountain Water projects well in the first 1 to 2 hours and leaves a few feet trail of scent behind you.

It is not unusual for Creed fragrances to not last for eternity, but that is something you shouldn’t expect from Creed fragrances. The Creed Silver Mountain Water, on the other hand, has an average or slightly above average lifespan and will make you smell delicate for about seven to eight hours at the most.

The longevity of the fragrance can also be determined by your skin type, but I would not expect you to get more than nine or ten hours of wear if you have a skin that reacts well to this scent. However, you can always try to extend the life of the fragrance by following our 13 techniques for getting the best out of your perfume.

There is no doubt that the projection in the first hour or two is effective, and this is the time that you will most certainly get a ton of compliments – it’s definitely a fragrance that is specially made for crowded situations if you want to draw everyone’s attention to you.

Therefore, it is not necessary to say that silage is extensive, and you will leave behind you traces that will generate compliments wherever you step, just as you leave traces behind you a few feet behind. In the same way that projection lasts for about two hours, strong sillage also fades away over time.

It is important to keep in mind that Silver Mountain Water was released 27 years ago and that there are many fragrances that will perform better than this one, but its unique scent allows it to stay current and primarily used by the population despite its age.

What is the best time to wear Creed Silver Mountain Water?

The best time to wear Creed Silver Mountain Water is during higher temperature days (summer and spring) because the scent as fresh as this one works best during those days. As far as occasion is concerned, Creed Silver Mountain Water definitely qualifies as a daytime fragrance that can be worn for casual activities and even office hours during the day.

Since this fragrance is highly herbal and fresh, I don’t see anyone wearing it during colder days, which is somewhat amusing, since Oliver Creed was inspired by the frostiness of the Swiss Alps. In spite of that, he was able to convey that chilly, cool feeling with the green notes derived from nature itself, which in turn created the chilly and cool effect.

In my opinion, versatility in this scent has definitely leaned toward wideness, as there are little occasions when I cannot see myself wearing it. It’s a great choice for most day-to-day activities, it’s a good gym scent, or a casual scent that goes well for walks or coffee breaks.

I have never worn Creed Silver Mountain Water in the evening or night-time and I do not think it is an ideal choice for night-time occasions. While it is addicting, it is smooth, and it is light in texture, but you will not experience the dark, mysterious, leathery feelings you expect from night fragrances.

As a matter of fact, I would say that this fragrance is made for everyone, and Creed House has a bad habit of making scents that are extremely versatile, which I really appreciate.

As a result of this, I always point out that Silver Mountain Water has an ageless construction and no matter if you are 20 years old or 60 years old, feel free to apply it and you won’t be disappointed by the flood of compliments you will receive.

When it comes to Creed Silver Mountain Water, how many sprays are enough to achieve the desired results?

It is recommended that you apply a minimum of 6 to 7 sprays of Creed Silver Mountain Water in order to get the best results from this fragrance – since it is a very light, smooth, and fresh fragrance, you can freely apply more sprays than usual.

In addition to the freshness it emanates from the Swiss Alps, Creed Silver Mountain Water has a very light scent that is almost impossible to turn into an aggravating, offensive, annoying fragrance that is almost impossible to turn into. This scent has a great projection for about two hours after applying it, but it is a well-rounded scent, so you won’t run the risk of overdosing on it.

It is recommended that Creed Silver Mountain Water, or any other fragrance as well, be sprayed on your pulse points since those are the areas on your body which are warmer and where the perfume will last longer and project more clearly.

As a result of that, you are going to want to spray 2 sprays behind your ears, 2 sprays in the dip of your collarbone, 1 spray behind your head, and you are going to want to spray 2 sprays along your wrists. For proper application, make sure you distance the atomizer from the skin by about 4-6 inches.

Is there a place where I can purchase Creed Silver Mountain Water?

The best way to get the original Creed Silver Mountain Creed is to buy it from a local perfumery which is an authorized reseller of Creed house or you can go to Creed Boutique itself. If you prefer to buy online, you can do so from Creed’s official website, FragranceX or FragranceNet.

Probably many of you already know that Creed is one of the most copied fragrance houses in the world and you can find clones of every Creed fragrance available everywhere on the market (hopefully not from your own experience). That is why it is a must for you to exercise extreme caution when it comes to purchasing Creed Silver Mountain Water and to ensure you are purchasing it from trustworthy sources.

There is no doubt that the best option is to visit a local perfumery that is an authorized Creed House reseller, test it on your skin, see how your nose reacts to it, and then make your decision based on that.

There is a good chance that many of us will opt for online shopping during these difficult times, and if you do so, make sure that you buy from trusted sources – Creed’s official website, FragranceX, or FragranceNet – since the times are tough right now. It is likely that you will find different prices on all three sources of Creed Silver Mountain Water, as well as differing shipping times – however, you can be sure that you are getting 100% original Creed Silver Mountain Water regardless of where you get it.

Packages

Creed Silver Mountain Water was created in 1995, and it still holds that classy look — this water comes in a white, porcelain bottle that has a simplistic and classy look, and it comes in a beautiful, standard Creed box.

It is important to note that both the box and the bottle itself have changed over the years, so the original box had an embossed Creed logo all over it, with a silver label stuck on the front, and the bottle had a different appearance to the one it has now.

Currently, Creed Silver Mountain Water is available in a white, textured box, which also includes a simplistic vibe to it and contains a silver Creed logo with a silver label on the front side of the box.

As with all Creed scents, this one also has a beastly atomizer along with a silver cap and Creed logo on top. As with every Creed scent, the bottle also has a silver cap with the Creed logo on it, which makes it look very clean and interesting at the same time.

All in all, this is a minimalistic but decent presentation as one would expect from Creed house.

Available bottles are:

  • 50ml / 1.7 OZ
  • 100ml / 3.33 OZ
  • 250ml / 8.4 OZ – different, golden packaging
  • 500ml / 16.8 OZ – different, golden packaging

What is the verdict on Creed Silver Mountain Water? – Is it worth it?

Taking into consideration the scent, performance, history, brand, but also the price of the product, the only true answer to this question is – it depends on the product.

The fragrance is definitely not worth it if you are looking for an everyday fragrance that smells great, but you can achieve that with much cheaper perfumes, so it’s definitely not worth buying it. However, if you want to possess the piece of history and enjoy the story of the Swiss Alps, Silver Mountain Water is definitely worth it.

There has always been controversy surrounding Creed because of the batch differences, price, and general performance of the company. While Green Irish Tweed, Aventus, and Viking are all incredible perfumes, if one really considers the quality of scent and performance of the fragrance, none of these perfumes are actually worth the price.

I do think that Creed perfumes have always been a status symbol, and from that point of view, it’s like buying a Mercedes Benz. There are better cars out there, but when you see them in Mercedes, that’s a story all by itself.

So it depends on what you are looking for — something that will make you smell amazing or something that will make you stand out from the crowd?

Silver Mountain Water is a fragrance I have been collecting for almost a decade and studying fragrances for almost a decade, and I have owned multiple batches over the years. Truth be told, Silver Mountain Water isn’t my first pick when I want to smell REALLY good, especially for daytime activity. It’s good, but there are better ones. Honestly, I don’t think I would own it if I wasn’t collecting fragrances.

While I am passionate about perfume, I live in a rural area of the Bronx, New York, far from any perfume stores that are close by. It is straightforward: I do not have any credentials to provide as the author of this blog. I just love perfume, that’s all I have to offer.

In addition to wearing male, female, and unisex fragrances, I also enjoy wearing perfumes containing woods, incense, citrus, flowers, spices, vetiver, and green notes. As well as chypre perfumes, I enjoy fragrances with oakmoss, especially chypres. Patchouli and amber are not particularly appealing to me, and with some notable exceptions, perfumes that smell very clean, oceanic, or are too sweet are not particularly appealing to me.

I also have an addiction to expensive chocolates and teas, and I spend a great deal of time browsing the Internet, reading blogs primarily written by others.
