Bleu De Chanel (EDT) by Chanel – Full Review

July 27, 2022 Jojo Hennessey

Known for its timeless, ozone scent, Blue De Chanel evoked a completely new era in Chanel’s collection and introduced us to a whole new meaning of class, was released 11 years ago and still maintains the same popularity as it did at the beginning of the decade.

This was the first fragrance in this collection and it was one of the last fragrances that Jacques Polge created before he was succeeded by his son, Oliver Polge, who is the current creative director of the company.

There is no doubt that Jacques Polge is a legend in the perfume industry, and Chanel House is known for having only one master perfumer for a long time, and for many years Jacques Polge was the one to have that privilege for a long time.

As if to prove that Chanel has the grapefruit signature all over the place, this masterpiece embodies the epitome of an elegant, aromatic, and clean scent that can be unmistakably attributed to Chanel.

When I first tried Bleu De Chanel EDT, it felt like I had returned home after a long, exhausting journey, since it has that familiar Chanel’s scent that evokes some of your earliest memories. At the same time, it has the power to make you feel futuristic and contemporary, with a strong dose of woodiness and spice.

I’ll be honest, I’ve been a fan of Bleu de Chanel for years, but for this review I’m going to do my best to provide you with objective information, in order to help you decide whether Bleu de Chanel should be your next purchase.

It’s important to keep in mind that in this review we’re talking about the eau de toilette version of Bleu de Chanel, which many will agree is the real Bleu de Chanel.

Can you tell me what Bleu De Chanel smells like?

With it’s citrusy-woody scent that opens strongly with hints of grapefruit and heavy doses of woodiness in the dry down, Blue De Chanel EDT is an aromatic fougere fragrance with a touch of spiciness and freshness, that will leave you blown away.

The DNA of this beautiful fragrance is unique, with timeless formulas and compositions of notes that have been able to keep this fragrance at the top of its game even after all these years.

Top notes (1):

  • Grapefruit
  • Lemon
  • Mint
  • Pink Pepper

Having said that, the bare opening has a strong burst of grapefruit, followed by lemon, and a slight touch of mint that give this fragrance that fresh, bright, and citrusy effect that will most certainly make you say “Wow” once you are done spraying it on.

Heart notes:

  • Ginger
  • Nutmeg
  • Jasmine
  • Iso E Super

Base notes:

  • Incense
  • Vetiver
  • Cedar
  • Sandalwood
  • Patchouli
  • Labdanum
  • White Mush

There is a big difference in the dry down from what you receive at the beginning of the game.

The woody notes that come from cedar, sandalwood, and especially Iso E Super, work perfectly together with all the bright and citrusy notes from the beginning of the scent.

As the name implies, Iso E Super is a synthetic, musky note that has a slightly “weird” and unusual smell, and in this composition, it is easily detectable, but because of the excellent blend with the patchouli and incense base, it gives the fragrance a completely new, different and aromatic accord altogether.

The warm spiciness that comes from ginger and pink pepper is what gives this fragrance such an absorbing harmony. It is important to note that these two notes don’t come off as aggressive or offensive at first, but they are like a secret weapon that will make you fall in love with this fragrance if you don’t recognize them right away.

I detected a small amount of ambroxan which is not mentioned in the notes breakdown but I believe it contributed to the addition of dustiness and woodiness to what was already a brilliant mix. I may be wrong, but that’s what I’m sensing with my nose.

If it dries down much further, the lemony and orange aroma will still be able to be felt, but it won’t be sharp or offensive, but it will give you the citrusy effect you want and the freshness you need, which is a combination that will leave you happy.

In the end, Bleu De Chanel has a classy formula – it’s a scent that is adored by all, and you can wear it without worrying that you won’t be able to pull it off if a person doesn’t like what you’re wearing.

Whenever you feel that you don’t want to take a risk, it’s a safe choice to make, and it’s an excellent compliment getter.

How long does Bleu de Chanel last?

The duration of the Blue De Chanel EDT usually ranges between 6 and 8 hours, depending on the way your skin reacts to it. When it comes to projection and sillage, it is also one of the most powerful.

A fragrance that has been on the market for as long as Bleu de Chanel often becomes a subject of reformulation – companies water down those fragrances so that they can boost sales of newer fragrances.

When a fragrance is watered down, its performance usually decreases, and this is also what happened to this fragrance once it was watered down.

Despite this, Bleu de Chanel still performs very well, giving you a lifetime of about 6-8 hours. I personally get around 6-7 hours out of it.

The projection is also great, and Bleu de Chanel projects for around 2-3 hours, 4-5 feet around, which is definitely a category of a screamer. Luckily, this scent is so exquisitely beautiful that it will certainly be enjoyed by those in the vicinity.

The sillage of this product is also pretty good, and it leaves a trail for at least 3-4 feet behind you after you have used it.

It is important to keep in mind that the longevity and performance of the perfume heavily rely on the type of your skin as well as the way you use it. Read our guide on 13 ways that you can help get the most out of your fragrance in terms of its longevity and performance.

When should one wear Bleu de Chanel?

It is possible to wear Bleu De Chanel EDT in any season, except during winter, as it lacks the strength to endure colder weather. When it comes to wearing it during the day or night, it is totally up to you as both of these options are suitable. If you decide to wear it in the office, or even during casual occasions, you will not go wrong. This fragrance is perfect for both.

The one thing I can say with certainty is that Bleu De Chanel has a wide range of versatility. It works perfectly with spring and fall, and it doesn’t turn sweet during the hot summer days.

In the winter, however, it is likely to lose its performance dramatically as a result of the colder temperatures, so I would not recommend wearing it during that period.

You may be wondering on which occasions you are able to wear Bleu de Chanel after all, and the answer is pretty simple – almost everywhere.

As a result of the extremely classy texture of this fragrance, it is a fantastic choice for the office, as it is an elegant and clean perfume, not in any way offensive or outlandish, so you can wear it without feeling like you are punching anybody in the nose…

My favorite way to wear it during the day is at coffee breaks and casual events, but I’ve also worn it on date nights and dinner with friends several times as well. I would not recommend this fragrance for clubbing and late nights out because it lacks that quirky and eccentric scent that will separate you from the masses of people when it comes to clubbing and late nights out.

When it comes to Bleu de Chanel, how many sprays are enough?

If you spray a few drops on your pulse points, you will be able to get the maximum benefit from Bleu De Chanel. The perfume has a wonderful concentration and a few sprays will have you smelling delightful all day long.

As the eau de toilette has the maximum concentration of all three fragrances in this collection, there is no need to overapply it since it contains the highest concentration. Nevertheless, you can still achieve extraordinary results by applying 3 to 5 sprays: two behind your ears, one behind your head, and one or two in the dips of your collarbone.

The spray can also be sprayed on your wrists if you want to get the extra effect.

It is easy to apply perfume to the proper spots where it will linger for the longest period of time so be sure to check out our full guide on how and where you should apply perfume properly for optimum results.

Bleu de Chanel: Where to Buy It?

If you are looking to purchase Bleu De Chanel EDT, you will need to visit a local perfumery that is an authorized reseller of the Chanel brand or you can visit their official website, Amazon where it can also be purchased.

When it comes to fragrances, the best advice I always follow is to visit local perfumeries where you can get them tested on your skin and make sure that the fragrance really is a good choice for you before you purchase it. Although Bleu de Chanel is a safe fragrance and you will probably love it, blind purchases often end up disappointing and can be a total waste of money.

A fragrance can react differently on different skin types, so the scent, performance, and longevity can be very different from one another. That is why, if you have a perfumery close by, you should visit one and try it out for yourself.

It is essential for you to keep in mind that Chanel is a world-famous brand and that fakes and scams are very much present. Luxury brands, such as Chanel, are always a victim of copycats, which is why you should be even more cautious than usual when it comes to shopping online for Chanel products.

You should make sure that you obtain your bottle of Bleu de Chanel from trusted sources – their official website is the safest way to go. Secondly, Amazon should join the official website after the official website as they are authorized resellers.

The Blue de Chanel and Dior Sauvage – Which Is Best?

Eternal battle of titans.

Boss fight.

It’s quite common to see armies of fans clashing online on a daily basis, each doing their best to bring victory to their heroes by solving this question.

In reality, the answer to this question is not as simple as it seems – which is better for you?

Due to the fact that these two spectacular fragrances have been compared a lot, people are a bit confused about which one is best and what the main difference is between Bleu de Chanel and Dior Sauvage.

However, I would like to emphasize that Bleu De Chanel EDT and Dior Sauvage EDT are different fragrances. They do have a few similar notes in terms of the scent, but they cannot be compared with each other.

The advantage Sauvage has when it comes to numbers is that for a while it has been the best selling men’s fragrance whereas Bleu de Chanel was not. The performance (longevity, projection, and sillage) are much better than those of Bleu de Chanel, and because of its sharpness, it gets more compliments than Bleu de Chanel.

When it comes to the original, I would say that Bleu de Chanel has an advantage – it is a bigger classic timeless fragrance that is less marketing-driven, which means in 15, 20 years from now, I am confident that Bleu de Chanel will still sell better than Dior Sauvage.

Dior Sauvage is a better fragrance than Blue de Chanel when it comes to performance of the fragrance; however, if it comes to uniqueness, originality, and signature composition, Bleu de Chanel is a better fragrance. Regardless of which one smells better, it is always a matter of personal preference when it comes to choosing.

You can read our full review of Dior Sauvage here if you would like to know more details about what the fragrance is really like.

Does there really exist a difference between Bleu de Chanel Parfum and EDT?

There are two main ways in which the first-born Bleu De Chanel EDT differs from the second-born Bleu De Chanel Parfum: the direction in which it is created. EDT is a more citrusy, light smell with grapefruit at the center, while Parfum is a more woody-centered smell, more mysterious, darker, heavier, and richer scent.

In my previous post, I mentioned that EDT has a great concentration, and when it is considered its age, it has a great longevity and performance as well.

Because EDT and EDP are widely adored by men and women alike, I couldn’t wait for the Parfum version of Bleu De Chanel – and it blew my mind!

In 2018, Chanel launched the Parfum version of this collection, and I found that it brought darkness and seductiveness that I was looking for in this Chanel collection, even though the Parfum version has a very similar scent to the eau de parfum version, it is still a masterpiece by itself.

In the last fragrance of this collection, Oliver Polge, the nose behind this collection, created a fragrance that has a woody-oriented scent with touches of lemon, bergamot, and lavender. This made the fragrance have such a rich and luxurious type of smell that is impossible to resist.

There is no doubt that the projection of the Parfum edition is incredible, definitely better than the EDT version, and the longevity of the perfume is what really surprised me the most.

For the first few hours it will project amazingly good, and for the next few hours it will project amazingly great, for about 9 to 10 hours a day.

A lot of people think that the Blue De Chanel EDT lacks the amusing and “wacky” note, some even call it boring, but I prefer to call it classy. Just like the EDT, Bleu De Chanel Parfum is a great complement factor. It is sexier and muscular, it is a great complement factor, and it is loved by everyone just as much as the EDT.

A guide to spotting a fake Bleu de Chanel

As a result of its popularity, Chanel is one of the most copied brands of all time, and there is such a wide range of well-done fake Chanel products available on the internet that can easily fool many people, especially someone who has never used Chanel before.

If you are wondering if your Bleu De Chanel is original or not, here are some guidelines that will help you in determining whether it is original or not:

There is a missing batch code in the batch

As one of the main features of fake Bleu De Chanel EDT, there is no batch code engraved on the back of the bottle directly under the atomizer, which should be visible under the atomizer. In order to determine if the fragrance is authentic or not, you need to check the batch code that matches the batch code on the original box. This is a safe way of determining if the fragrance is genuine.

As well as that, if there is a batch code, you can check out on Check Fresh website. to see if it is valid.

It was a bad presentation

First of all, I would like to mention that the original bottle is slightly transparent and very clean, you can clearly see through it and the glass itself is very polished.

The fake ones are quite muggy and dimly, they’re almost not transparent at all at all, and they have sharp lines of glass mold, which is not the case with the original ones.

There is a great deal of difference between fonts, wording, and print quality

It is worth noting that the original bottle has a metallic, darker white color for the wording, whereas the fake bottle has a bright, clean white for the wording. The name of the perfume and the wording on the bottom of the bottle is almost not scrapeable at all, but on the fake, you can scrape it easily.

The amount is capped

The cap of the Bleu De Chanel has a magnetic feature that makes it easy to open and close.

Both the fakes and the original have that detail; however, on the original, no matter how you put the cap on, it will automatically go into place and both the C letters (the Chanel logo) will line up perfectly with the bottle, which is a very cool and interesting detail that the fake does not have.

There are several types of atomizers available

Lastly, I would like to mention the atomizer. On the original, the atomizer was bright, metallic, glossy colored, and it was raised slightly.

In addition to looking rusted and old, the fakes also perform very poorly and are extremely hard to recognize.

There is a scent emanating from it

The last but not least: the scent. The reason why I put this last is because I am assuming that for those of you who are getting Bleu de Chanel for the first time, you probably do not know how to smell it and even if you have smelt it before, it is not most likely that you will recognize it.

Nevertheless, if you are already familiar with the smell of Bleu de Chanel and are aware of how it smells exactly, then just by smelling the perfume you will be able to tell should you be dealing with a fake smell.

Packing

There is a very classy, dark, and clean presentation of Bleu De Chanel EDT. It looks elegant and gives off an expensive feeling.

It comes in a very dark shade of blue, the bottle is slightly transparent, but it has a very polished and glossy finish. The bottle comes with a black cap that has a Chanel logo on top of it and a magnetic closure.

After removing the cap of the atomizer, you will find a metallic, bright, glossy atomizer that looks incredible and does an amazing job; it is very precise and well defined.

There are a number of fragrances from this collection which have very similar appearances and each one of them appears very sophisticated and luxurious from a distance.

I like my perfume bottles to be very chic and good-looking, so if you are like me and the appearance of the fragrances is important to you, then you don’t have to be worried about that.

Bleu de Chanel review – Is it worth the price?

It goes without saying that the Bleu de Chanel fragrance is still very much worth it in 2022. This timeless scent left its traces deeply embedded in the hearts of many people and it will always be a timeless classic that every fragrance enthusiast should own in their collection.

I believe that there are some fragrances that may never grow old, and I am confident that this perfume will still be modern and widely used by masses of people – including me – after 50 years from now.

Its citrusy and spicy aroma combined with woody factors in this fragrance was a magical composition and proved to be a success story that competed with many other new and famous fragrances on the market at the time.

As a fragrance with classy and fresh accords, with a good longevity and projection, and with a meaningful signature of Chanel’s brand, this fragrance is a great choice for anyone who enjoys smelling fresh, clean, smoky, with a sense of spiciness and smokiness thrown in for good measure.

Jojo Hennessey

While I am passionate about perfume, I live in a rural area of the Bronx, New York, far from any perfume stores that are close by. It is straightforward: I do not have any credentials to provide as the author of this blog. I just love perfume, that’s all I have to offer.

In addition to wearing male, female, and unisex fragrances, I also enjoy wearing perfumes containing woods, incense, citrus, flowers, spices, vetiver, and green notes. As well as chypre perfumes, I enjoy fragrances with oakmoss, especially chypres. Patchouli and amber are not particularly appealing to me, and with some notable exceptions, perfumes that smell very clean, oceanic, or are too sweet are not particularly appealing to me.

I also have an addiction to expensive chocolates and teas, and I spend a great deal of time browsing the Internet, reading blogs primarily written by others.
