The first flanker to Acqua di Gio and one of the most successful was Acqua Di Gio Profumo, launched in 2015 by the same master perfumer who made original Acqua Di Gio and the king of fresh fragrances- Alberto Morillas.
Even though it is a flanker of the original fragrance, Acqua Di Gio Profumo certainly has a signature scent that many people enjoy
Though it was created in 2015, it managed to make our list of best spring fragrances for men in 2022 and it proudly holds that position.
As a result, we will no longer see Profumo on the list next year as Giorgio Armani Beauty USA decided to discontinue this incredible piece in June 2022. We will review Acqua Di Gio Profumo in this blog post in detail, and I hope that this will help you determine whether this is a scent you would like to add to your collection.

Acqua Di Gio Profumo – What Does It Smell Like?
Acqua Di Gio Profumo reminds me of salt water, Mediterranean beaches, and a classy attitude. It is an aromatic, fresh, and very masculine scent. There is definitely original Acqua Di Gio DNA to it, you can smell it and there is a slight heaviness to it.
It’s much better than the original Acqua Di Gio, in my opinion. Profumo would have had the same success as ADG if it had been released in 1996.
When it comes to fresh fragrances, Alberto Morillas makes killer combinations that are beautiful and very well blended.
According to Armani, this is a sophisticated fragrance derived from volcanic rock and deep ocean waters. The smell is exactly the same.
(1) The top notes are:
- The bergamot scent
- Notes of the sea
As soon as you spray it, you feel bergamot and sea notes.
The heart notes are as follows:
- A rosemary bush
- A sage plant
- A geranium plant
The base notes are as follows:
- An incense stick
- The patchouli scent
Along with patchouli, incense from the base is very dominant and provides a calming effect. The heart and top are light, seductive and dreamy, while the base adds earthiness and masculinity.
Acqua Di Gio Profumo features patchouli as a note that evokes earthiness and masculinity.
It’s a very stable scent that doesn’t change at all during the drydown, yet it’s not linear. It’s no secret that Giorgio Armani makes super stable fragrances and Profumo is no exception.
Basically, it’s a classic men’s fragrance but very well done in terms of aroma chemicals and essential oils.
I love how Acqua Di Gio Profumo goes with spring, summer, and even fall, day or night, it doesn’t matter. It’s always a pleasure to smell the classy marine scent!
Is Acqua Di Gio Profumo long lasting?
It is estimated that Acqua Di Gio Profumo lasts for 7-9 hours, depending on your skin type. There is no significant variation in longevity of this scent, as I have already mentioned.
The product always opens beautifully on my skin, and I get up to 8 hours of longevity without any issues – depending on the temperature, sometimes even 9+ hours.
There have been no reports of it lasting less than seven hours on anyone, so if you’re looking for a good performing scent during spring and summer days, Acqua Di Gio Profumo is your definite go-to.
I am very pleased with the projection and sillage of the performance.
The projection distance of Acqua Di Gio Profumo is approximately 4-6 feet during the first 3-4 hours following the initial spray.
A scent trail of 4-6 feet is left behind by the scent, which is also very pleasing.
The scent will still be detectable on you after 4-5 hours, and the intensity does not change for those who come in contact with you.
The longevity, projection, and sillage of Acqua Di Gio Profumo are excellent!
What is the best time to wear Acqua Di Gio Profumo?
Acqua Di Gio Profumo is such a versatile men’s fragrance that it could almost be worn all year long. However, aquatic marine notes are not appropriate for the winter season.
I believe that the best time to wear Acqua Di Gio Profumo is during the spring and summer months. While it can be used as a daytime fragrance, it also works wonderfully as a nighttime fragrance.
Fresh, aquatic and marine scents will make your days lighter and easier, whereas patchouli and incense notes will give you a feeling of masculinity and class when you go out for the night.
In my opinion, I wouldn’t recommend wearing Acqua Di Gio Profumo during winter, since cold temperatures will prevent it from opening properly, which will result in its inability to perform as it should.
Profumo is the perfect place to enjoy the warmer days of the year, and you will be wishing for a beach getaway before you know it!
In order to get the best results, how many sprays of Acqua Di Gio Profumo are enough?
It is recommended that five sprays of Acqua Di Gio Profumo be applied to deliver optimal performance of the fragrance – two under the ears, one behind the head, and two on the dips right beside the clavicle bone.
There will be a beautiful projection around you from the ears area. When you spray behind your head, a trail will be left behind you, and dipping your clavicle bone under your shirt will maintain the scent so it will last longer – when you turn your head, small pockets of air containing fragrance will come out and you (and anyone near you) will be able to smell them.
There is a lot of information about this in our article solely devoted to how to use perfume to get the most from it, so be sure to take a look at it!
Despite the fact that Acqua Di Gio Profumo can be applied excessively, it should not be done so. You can also apply a few more sprays to other parts of your body, such as your shoulders, chest, and back (on the shirt) if you wish to make “more parts of you” smell as well, such as the inside of your ankles.
Remember, by adding extra sprays, you won’t be able to increase the performance of the spray – you will just waste the fragrance by overdoing it.
Due to the very stable nature of Acqua Di Gio, you are not really able to overapply it, but if you have a desire to apply 10 or more sprays to yourself, go for it!
Is Acqua Di Gio Profumo Discontinued?
The Giorgio Armani Beauty USA has confirmed and verified that Acqua Di Gio Profumo has been discontinued as of the time when this article was written (June 2022).
It is a fact that the world of fragrance enthusiasts may have not welcomed this news with open arms – many expressed their dissatisfaction with Armani’s decision to discontinue Acqua Di Gio Profumo with a smile on their faces – but as things stand at the moment, Giorgio Armani beauty does not anticipate changing its decision anytime soon. They seem to be suggesting Acqua Di Gi* Eau De Parfum instead of Cologne, which is at the very least absurd to suggest as a replacement for Cologne.
There’s never a good feeling to see your favorite fragrances being discontinued, and even here at Fragrance Republic, we’re not sure why companies sometimes discontinue their best-selling fragrances, but if the point has come where you need to refill, or at least try for once, this fragrance, now would be the time to do so.
How Can I Buy Acqua Di Gio Profumo?

In the event that Acqua Di Gio Profumo has been discontinued, the best place to buy it is from online resellers such as FragranceNet and if you are looking, maybe even Amazon.
Visiting the perfumery itself is always the best option because you are able to test the fragrance there and decide if it is right for you, but since there has been a lot of news about discontinuing this gorgeous piece of art, chances are very slim that you will be able to find it in perfumeries anytime soon.
In 1997, FragranceNet became one of the first fragrance discounters in the business and they have been successful ever since. The majority of my fragrances are ordered from this website, which is where I get most of my fragrances.
As an alternative, you might be able to find some of the trustworthy websites where you can buy fragrances, and if you’re lucky, you might just find the fragrance you’re looking for on those websites.
If you purchase Acqua Di Gio Profumo from any of these sources, then you can rest assured that whatever source you purchase it from, you will receive a 100% original Acqua Di Gio Profumo, regardless of where you purchase it. There is a wide range of prices for each of these sources, but also a wide range of shipping costs.
The fact that there are many scammers who are selling fake fragrances online is one of the reasons why I always recommend being extra cautious when buying fragrances online. There is no point in buying fake fragrances since they are not FDA approved and have not been tested on humans.
The packaging
It is packaged in a standard box and the bottle has the same shape as the original ADG, but it is black.
The presentation is beautiful, classy, and simple.
The product is available in four different sizes:
- 1.5 ounces / 40 ml
- Sizes: 25 ml and 75 ml
- The bottle weighs 4.2 ounces / 125 milliliters
- 10 ounces / 300 ml
What’s the verdict on Acqua Di Gio Profumo?
There’s nothing good about Acqua Di Gio Profumo – it’s amazing, fresh, and masculine!
Almost 20 years after the original Acqua Di Gio came out, Alberto Morillas – king of fresh scents – created Acqua Di Gio Profumo (after almost 20 years since the original came out).
I have no doubt that this will last and project for hours on your skin since its performance is amazing for a fresh fragrance.
Since it’s light, Acqua Di Gio Profumo can be your summer scent, or your spring scent. No matter if you wear it day or night, it’s perfect for every occasion – dinner night, office work, whatever!
An amazing scent that made a big impact on the industry!
It is safe to say that even though Giorgio Armani is shamefully promoting Acqua Di Gi* Eau De Parfum as the replacement for Profumo, it is safe to say that you may like it, but it will never smell like Profumo in its original state.

While I am passionate about perfume, I live in a rural area of the Bronx, New York, far from any perfume stores that are close by. It is straightforward: I do not have any credentials to provide as the author of this blog. I just love perfume, that’s all I have to offer.
In addition to wearing male, female, and unisex fragrances, I also enjoy wearing perfumes containing woods, incense, citrus, flowers, spices, vetiver, and green notes. As well as chypre perfumes, I enjoy fragrances with oakmoss, especially chypres. Patchouli and amber are not particularly appealing to me, and with some notable exceptions, perfumes that smell very clean, oceanic, or are too sweet are not particularly appealing to me.
I also have an addiction to expensive chocolates and teas, and I spend a great deal of time browsing the Internet, reading blogs primarily written by others.
