It has been 26 years since we reviewed Acqua Di Gio original, which came out unbelievably 26 years ago. I have also reviewed one of the best flankers that the original brought to market, Acqua Di Gio Profumo (which has proved to be one of Giorgio Armani’s biggest success stories), so now we are going to round up the story with an even better flanker.
As one of the newest iterations of the original Acqua Di Gio Profondo, it was released in the year 2020. Heading up the fragrance is none other than Alberto Morillas, who is known to be a king of fresh fragrances and as such this was high expectation for this fragrance.
Acqua di Gio has certainly achieved a lot in the world of scents – it won the hearts and noses of many people, and even to this day, it remains to be one of the most popular lines, but when is it really time for the perfume house to stop doing spin-off fragrances of a certain line?
Can Acqua Di Gio Profondo really make a difference in the world? Do we really need this product?
Are you looking for money? Or are you looking for a legacy?
Our goal, in this post, is not just to answer these questions, but to also review Acqua Di Gio Profondo in detail – its scent, its performance, its uniqueness, and the value it offers to users.

Can you tell me how Acqua Di Gio Profondo smells?
As soon as you smell Acqua Di Gio Profondo, you will immediately be reminded of an aromatic, juicy, marine type of scent. It is a green, fresh, clean scent with a mineral undertone that instantly evokes images of a blue sea with white beaches.
According to Giorgio Armani, olfactive notes are:
Top notes:
- Marine notes (modernized by Aquozone)
- Bergamot
- Green mandarin
Heart notes:
- Aromatic essences
Base notes:
- Woody Minerals
- Musk
- Patchouli from Guatemala
- Amber
From the first spray of Acqua Di Gio Profondo, you will get a window into the scent of fresh, green, and juicy citrus that comes from the bergamot and green mandarin. After approximately several minutes, the sea notes and aquozone are introduced and the scent becomes more aquatic, marine.
The aquozone molecule is actually a newly developed molecule which can be described as a bit synthetic but fresh and iodic fragrance, mainly because it adds a nuance of freshness to a product.
There are mineral notes lingering in the background from the base and imparting the scent with a fizzy sensation right from the start. These fresh, mineral notes stay present throughout the whole performance, without ever being overpowering or aggressive, instead they sit quietly under the other notes in the scent.
In the context of Acqua Di Gio Profondo, which is a flanker to the original line, it is important to emphasize that Acqua Di Gio Profondo has a significant amount of DNA that is reminiscent of the original line, so after all, Acqua Di Gio Profondo is a flanker to the original line.
In terms of the composition, it can absolutely be said that they took an existing, stunning composition and modernized it while adding a stunning blue touch to it.
I think you’ll find that as you go into the heart of the wine, you’ll find essences of rosemary, lavender, and mastic that, together, give a bitter, spicy, green vibe. As the wine develops, it becomes more aromatically oriented while always retaining the initial freshness from the opening.
AQUA DI GIO PROFONDO is an extremely pleasant, mass-appealing, attention-grabbing fragrance that is absolutely easy to like, and is a fragrance that is sure to make you smile.
If you have been a long-term user or a long-term consumer of Acqua Di Gio original scent, then Acqua Di Gio Profondo flanker is not going to be anything extraordinary or exceptional to you. Keep in mind that Acqua Di Gio Profondo is a flanker that contains a similar DNA, so you shouldn’t expect it to be a totally different scent than its original counterpart.
In my opinion, if you loved the original Acqua Di Gio release, then you are going to love this one too. If you haven’t tried Acqua Di Gio fragrance so far, Profondo can easily be the one where you can begin.
Despite the fact that the dry-down is quite similar, the scent remains fresh and green with a hint of musk and patchouli at the end. I would not say that Acqua Di Gio Profondo ever gets significantly woody because of the patchouli never getting too demanding. Patchouli is an earthy note that gives on heaviness, but in this scent it was used to ground the scent in general.
The Acqua Di Gio Profondo to me, seems to be Armani’s attempt to remind people that there is a DNA in the original that still works with the addition of today’s modern technology.
In spite of the fact that it never disappoints, it is never less than what we expect, it is simply a breathtaking scent that plays on the depths of our desires and plays on our emotions.
Does Acqua Di Gio Profondo last for a long time?
The length of the Acqua Di Gio Profondo is 7 to 8 hours, with an excellent projection and lasting power in the first hour or so of the duration. The sillage of the Acqua Di Gio Profondo is also above average, so it will leave a sensual trail behind you for about 2-3 feet.
As with the Profumo, Acqua Di Gio Profondo is one of the more stable scents in the Acqua Di Gio family – by definition, Acqua Di Gio Profondo is an eau de parfum, but since it is meant for the hot seasons, it performs well in this regard.
I know that there are many people who are not happy about summer fragrances that do not last more than three hours, but this perfume will definitely outperform the industry average in this respect.
Besides that, the sillage of Acqua Di Gio Profondo is also very good, and since it is a mass-appealing scent, the beautiful trail that will follow you throughout your day will get many complements from your peers.
When the scent has been lingering for approximately 3-4 hours, it will become more intimate, but the scent can still be detected by people who come a little closer to you within that time period.
Summer fragrances usually don’t provide the best performance, but the performance of perfume generally depends on the individual and how the perfume reacts to their skin in general. There are many ways to improve perfume’s longevity, so in case you need an extra couple of hours, take a look at some of our tips & tricks for increasing perfumes longevity, and I’m pretty sure one of them will be of great help to you.
What is the best time to wear Acqua Di Gio Profondo?

In order to get the maximum benefit from Acqua Di Gio Profondo, the best time is during spring and summer as its notes coincide with the season, but also because higher temperatures will allow the fragrance to perform at its best during those seasons.
It is fair to say that Acqua Di Gio scents are pretty versatile. However, the aquatic, blue, fresh scent of this perfume will not be suitable for the cooler winter and fall days.
As far as the day and night are concerned, even though the preference tends to favor the daytime events, it has been found that night-based events will have just as good of a response.
As a result of its ultra-pleasant nature, Acqua Di Gio Profondo can be a great choice for office scents – it never becomes too aggressive or overwhelming, so your colleagues will only be able to enjoy the stunning scent while you are in the office.
Acqua Di Gio Profondo can be used in a variety of casual settings, from casual activities to romantic date times, both of which are more than suitable for Acqua Di Gio Profondo.
It is certain that Acqua Di Gio Profondo will not disappoint you at any time when you decide to wear it.
What is the recommended number of sprays of Acqua Di Gio Profondo?
It is recommended that you spray Acqua Di Gio Profondo five times – once under the ear, once behind the head, and once in the dips of the collarbone – to deliver the optimal performance of the fragrance.
This is why I love Acqua Di Gio Profondo so much, because it is hard to overapply, but you can always waste precious liquid since more sprays will not make the product last longer.
In general, it would all depend on the type of person you are. Some people love to soak in the fragrance, while others never exceed 2 sprays – if you disagree with our recommendation, then test it out for yourself and see what works for you. Either way, you cannot go wrong with it.
There is no doubt that if you master the art of applying perfume correctly, you will have the ability to get the most out of the fragrance. Once you master this skill, you will notice not only the change in performance, but also the change in the dry-down of the perfume.
Acqua Di Gio Profondo – Where Can I Buy It?

Acqua Di Gio Profondo can be found in many local perfumeries who are authorized resellers of Giorgio Armani’s house as well as online at several places, including FragranceNet and Amazon, which are the top recommended online stores.
Ideally, every one of us should be able to test the fragrance directly on our skin before they decide to buy it. However, the reality is that often time and our everyday activities don’t leave us enough space in which to travel to perfumeries and discover what they have to offer.
This is one of the most appealing things about Acqua Di Gio Profondo, which is that it is a scent that is most likely going to appeal to you, so a blind buy may not be that bad for a scent this naturally mass-appealing.
It is my personal recommendation that if you are looking to buy Acqua Di Gio Profondo online, you should consider getting it through FragranceNet since they have the best price.
If you want to get an original fragrance bottle, then you can rest assured that you’re getting an original bottle. Additionally, they have really good discounts, so you might be able to catch one if you hurry.

While I am passionate about perfume, I live in a rural area of the Bronx, New York, far from any perfume stores that are close by. It is straightforward: I do not have any credentials to provide as the author of this blog. I just love perfume, that’s all I have to offer.
In addition to wearing male, female, and unisex fragrances, I also enjoy wearing perfumes containing woods, incense, citrus, flowers, spices, vetiver, and green notes. As well as chypre perfumes, I enjoy fragrances with oakmoss, especially chypres. Patchouli and amber are not particularly appealing to me, and with some notable exceptions, perfumes that smell very clean, oceanic, or are too sweet are not particularly appealing to me.
I also have an addiction to expensive chocolates and teas, and I spend a great deal of time browsing the Internet, reading blogs primarily written by others.
